Celtic tonight take on Hibs at Celtic Park under the lights on what will be a freezing cold evening in Glasgow’s East End. Following on from the half-time rollocking the players received at McDiarmid Park on Sunday, the manager got a brilliant reaction in the second half and we were treated to three exception goals from Callum McGregor, Matt O’Riley and James Forrest. And the Celtic support will be looking for the team to pick up where they left off in Perth, with Brendan Rodgers promising a very fast start from his team tonight.
Team News
Two changes are expected to the side that started at Perth with Mikey Johnston and Tomoki Iwata likely to come into the starting XI this evening with Yang and David Turnbull both dropping to the bench. The South Korean winger had a stinker of a first half against St Johnstone and it was a surprise to no-one that Rodgers replaced him at the break with Mikey Johnston who certainly was much more impressive.
Callum McGregor’s half volley on Sunday may remind the manager of his contribution to the Celtic goalscoring stats during the manager’s first stint at the club and that could open the door for Tomoki Iwata to start with McGregor pushed forward alongside Matt O’Riley.
Joe Hart will have the gloves behind an unchanged back four. Up top Mikey Johnston will be on the right, Luis Palma – who looked to have pulled his hamstring on Sunday but thankfully it was just a bit of cramp – will be on the left and Kyogo will play through the middle.
Predicted Team
Here’s how we reckon Celtic will line-up this evening against Hibs…
CELTIC: Joe Hart; Alistair Johnston, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liam Scales, Greg Taylor; Tomoki Iwata, Callum McGregor, Matt O’Riley; Mikey Johnston, Kyogo and Luis Palma.
Subs: Bain, Phillips, Holm, Oh, Turnbull, Bernardo, Forrest, Ralston and Yang.
Match Officials
The Scottish FA have appointed John Beaton as referee for the Celtic v Hibs match in the Scottish Premiership this evening. Beaton will be assisted by Daniel McFarlane and Craig Ferguson while the Fourth Official will be Colin Steven. VAR will be led by Gavin Duncan and his assistant all be David McGeachie. What could possibly go wrong?
