Celtic v Motherwell: Alan Muir handed whistle for trophy day

The Scottish Football Association have confirmed that Alan Muir will be the referee for today’s game between Celtic and Motherwell. Celtic have already sealed the league title but there are still three points to play for as Graham Alexander’s side arrives at Paradise for a day of festivities.

The referee will be aided by Assistant Referees David McGeachie and Graham McNeillie with Stewart Luke acting as Fourth Official. It has been a hectic league season and it will come to an end tomorrow as Ange Postecoglou’s side get their hands on their trophy. Muir sent Carl Starfelt off in dubious circumstances in Dingwall on a game that would prove pivotal to the regaining of the league title. Tony Ralston popped up and scored a 97th-minute winner on a night where they were celebrating dropped points back at Ibrox.

Whilst there are still three points on offer, fans are coming to Paradise to celebrate the return of the Premiership trophy after a brief hiatus elsewhere. Celtic relinquished their title with a draw at Tannadice the season before and it is only fitting that a point against Dundee United in the City of Discovery sealed the title. The game will also see the club tribute to two modern-day greats, Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton, who depart the club this summer.
