Celtic v Rangers: Bobby Madden to referee Glasgow Derby clash

Bobby Madden will referee Celtic’s game against Rangers next month. The SFA confirmed that Madden would replace Willie Collum, who was due to officiate the game at the beginning of this month before for the game was postponed. Ange Postecoglou’s team will play the second derby of the season on February 2nd, looking for revenge after the narrow defeat in August, where Celtic were actually the better team.

Madden last refereed a game between Celtic and Rangers last season in the Scottish Cup but you would need to go to the year before for the last league appointment of Madden, in which Celtic won 2-0 at Ibrox. Goals from Odsonne Edouard and Jonny Hayes sealed the points for Celtic that afternoon, much to the delight of the 800 Celtic fans in the corner of the Sandy Jardine and Broomloan Front stands. However, when the teams meet on a Wednesday night, there will be no away fans attending.

Collum, meanwhile, will officiate Celtic’s game against Hibs tomorrow as Scottish football kicks off again following the winter break. Collum last refereed Celtic in the 2-0 win at Fir Park; however, he was actually subbed off after picking up an injury. Chris Fordyce stepped in for Collum, in what has been his only game officiating Celtic this year.

And for those who missed this one on The Celtic Star, here’s a catch-up chance to check out the photographs given to this site by the former Celtic Director Tom Grant of the demolition of the old Celtic Park and in its place the emergence of the New Celtic Park which we know and love today. These photographs are fascinating and well worth checking out on the link below…
