Celtic v Rangers: SFA announce referee appointment for Glasgow Derby

The Scottish Football Association have announced the referee appointments for next weekend’s Glasgow Derby between Celtic and Rangers. Brendan Rodgers’ side host their local rivals in the second Derby of the season, having won 1-0 when the sides met at the beginning of September.

The SFA have announced that Nick Walsh will take charge of the fixture, having refereed the League Cup Final back in February, that Celtic won 2-1. Walsh will be assisted by Graeme Stewart and Calum Spence. Meanwhile, at Clydesdale House, Wullie Collum is on VAR. The veteran whistler will be assisted by Daniel McFarlane.

Walsh is considered one of the better referees in the Scottish game and his handling of the League Cup showed that he is willing to let the game flow.

Celtic returned to winning ways on Saturday by beating Livingston 2-0. Rodgers will take his team to Dens Park on Boxing Day before the teams meet at Celtic Park in a top of the table clash. Rangers, meanwhile, cut the cap to two points on Sunday by beating Motherwell by the same scoreline. They were fortunate enough not to have a penalty given against them after a Dessers pull in the box went unpunished.

Strangely Nick Walsh had a very good game on Saturday Hearts v St Mirren. Like a new different referee.
