Celtic v St Mirren – “We want a little bit of revenge,” Carl Starfelt

Carl Starfelt reckons that the Celtic players need to push any thoughts of the League Cup Final at the end of February against theRangers to the back of their minds for the time being and concentrate on the football that’s to be played prior to the Hampden showdown.

And that starts with tomorrow night’s meeting at Celtic Park against St Mirren who of course are the only side to have beaten Celtic this season in domestic football. Starfelt didn’t play in that 2-0 defeat in Paisley back in September after picking up his injury in the 4-0 win over theRangers in the match preceding the loss to the Saints but nevertheless he’s looking for revenge tomorrow night.

“We have to forget about the final now and concentrate on the league matches,” the Sweden International defender said, as reported by Glasgow Times. “The next game is the most important one and that is the way you have to look at it if you want to fight in all competitions. Every game is important so the full focus is on Wednesday and St Mirren now.

“We will try to win that game because there is plenty to play for in the league so we need to be really focused on that. St Mirren were the last team to beat us in the league so we want a little bit of revenge!

“We want to win every game, that’s how it is, but maybe a little bit more this one because of what happened last time. We were very disappointed after that game.”

Pushed to look ahead to the League Cup Final which will be the first meeting of the sides at the National Stadium since the 2-1 Scottish Cup semi-final defeat after extra-time last April so this Final presents Starfelt and his Celtic teammates with another revenge mission opportunity, which we certainly hope that they take.

“Do I feel we are a better team now compared to the last time we played at Hampden? Yes, I feel we have evolved, for sure,” the Celtic stopper said. He certainly reckons that Celtic are now better than they were last season.

“We have been playing with each other for a longer time, we all know each other better and know what the manager wants. The group is stronger, we know exactly how we want to play and that has been developing constantly.

“We also have a lot to improve on as well, you always have to keep looking to get better.”
