Celtic want to see more from star before sanctioning £9m transfer this Summer

It’s been obvious for years that certain clubs have completely distorted the market when it comes to transfer fees, so it will be interesting to see if the ruling against Man City calms things down a bit.

Wages have also become a problem for a team like Celtic, of course they can spend millions on a player if they think he’s worth it, but other leagues do tend to pay much higher wages.

When he’s been fit, most fans would be happy to see Mohamed Elyounoussi make his switch from Southampton permanent – he’s great on the ball and has a strikers’ instinct when it comes to getting into the box.

A report from Football Insider has given an update on his status for the Summer, and it does sound like he’s available but it will take a sizeable investment.

They claim that Lenny is a huge fan and would jump at the chance to keep him, while Southampton are willing to take a loss on the £16m they paid for him.

They add that Celtic might need to match the £9m record fee that they paid for Odsonne Edouard, so they aren’t ready to jump straight in and sanction that just now.

He does have an impressive scoring record of one every two games, but injuries have limited him to only 14 appearances this term, so Celtic want to see more durability from him as well as seeing if he can be effective when it matters.

It certainly sounds like Celtic are open to keeping him, but he just needs to prove that he’s worth the huge investment.
