Five Celtic FC Women Academy players have been called up to the Under-17s squad taking part in the MIMA Cup next month. Lucy Barclay, Darra Dawson, Sienna McGoldrick, Olivia McStay and Amy Sharkey have all been named as part of the 21-player squad that will travel to Spain.
Our Ghirls will take part in Scotland’s first match on Monday 5th February. If Scotland win their opening match against Sweden, they will go onto face either England or the Philippines in the final. Failing to make the final, there will be a runner-up match between the losing teams.
Our academy is certainly looking good, with Celtic having the most players called up out of the squad. Let’s hope our players can make an impact and come home with some good memories.
These international friendlies will give players the chance to make their mark on the squad and get in the gaffer’s good books, as they’ll all be hoping to make the team that will take part in the second round of the UEFA European Qualifiers.
Make sure to keep up with the young team when the competition begins at the start of February. If international football isn’t your thing, don’t forget that Celtic FC Women take on Glasgow City this Sunday. The game is available to watch on BBC Alba.
