Celtic would face competition from three German sides as prolific striker emerges as a possible target

There are a lot of questions to be answered at Celtic this summer, but it’s really not clear what the striking options will look like next season.

It would be a surprise if Odsonne Edouard is still at the club next season, Klimala is already gone, Leigh Griffiths seems to be leaning towards an exit and it’s very possible that Albian Ajeti is punted too.

That would require a brand-new forward line, so ideally you would hope for one proven striker who’s ready to take the immediate responsibility for scoring goals, while two or three younger players with talent would also be brought in to develop.

Juventus loanee Nikolai Frederiksen has started to be mentioned as a likely target, but our colleague from Caught Offside Leah Smith has confirmed that there would be plenty of interest from Germany too:

He was initially signed by Juventus in 2019 to take a spot in their newly created U23 side which was competing in the third tier, but he’s broken through during a loan spell in Austria this season with 14 goals in 25 games so far.

He’s at his best through the middle but he also has the pace to cause issues on either flank, while it sounds like he will be leaving Juve this summer so he is the kind of player that Celtic tend to target.

It’s unlikely that he’s shown enough to come in and replace Eddy straight away but he would be an exciting impact sub to begin with, so it’s worth keeping an eye on his name to see if anything happens in the summer.
