Celtic’s home-grown Euro specialists

ANOTHER big summer night for Celtic in Champions League qualifying duties and another big goal from James Forrest – and also another one from Celtic’s other European specialist Callum McGregor – the only Celtic player to have scored for Celtic in every competition last season, including the Champions League Group stages and the Europa League.

Jamesy was well pleased with the result in Armenia.

“We finished the game strongly when we got two goals. I think we could have scored another couple as well, so I’m glad we kept the clean sheet and we will take that into next week and I think we will be stronger, as well.

“Naturally, we realised how hot it was going to be. We couldn’t play the way we normally do, but I think that was good for our confidence, to show we can go out in different conditions and play good football.

“So, of course, it was good to get the three goals to take into next week.”

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was pleased with the result in the tough conditions – see HERE – and also had a special word of praise for McGregor, the Celt he described at the weekend as the most under-rated player he’s ever worked with – see HERE.

“Callum plays with a lot of authority and personality.

“He’s a real attacking midfield player. We’ve got different types – Scott Brown’s a defensive one, Olivier Ntcham’s a passing midfield player and Callum, who is an attacking player.

“He can go forward, break lines and score goals. He does it very regularly now and in big games.

“Callum is a very valuable player to our squad,” Brendan noted.
