MARTIN BOYLE has been linked with a move to English Championship side Stoke City as Hibernian look to consolidate their finances after the Coronavirus pandemic’s impact biting hard at Easter Road.
As reported by the Scottish Sun, the 27-year-old is available for just £1m and Stoke City seem to fancy the Australian internationalist as the Potters look to build for next season. Their manager, Michael O’Neill played for Hibs in the 1990s and could give them a financial boost by purchasing Boyle, who has a year remaining on his contract.
Boyle was a transfer target for Celtic in January but no deal was forthcoming with Neil Lennon’s side seemingly unwilling to pay £1.5m for the winger.
Neil Lennon, who was Hibs manager for two and a half years, may be willing to revisit Boyle, who has similar versatility to Jonny Hayes but on the right-hand side. The fact that Hibs are in a position that they need to sell could help Celtic, especially if it meant that the Scottish Champions could use Hibs as a vehicle to offload some loan players.
Stoke City were also linked with former-Celt Jonny Hayes, who left at the expiry of his deal at the start of this month.
