Celtic’s major Callum McGregor boost as skipper nears return

Celtic could welcome Callum McGregor back for the crucial meeting against Dundee United at the weekend. The Scottish Champions closed the gap on Hearts at the weekend to just two points, putting the title back into Celtic’s hands.

According to Scottish Sun, the Celtic captain is close to making his return to bolster Martin O’Neill’s squad as the look to hunt the Tynecastle side down for the title.

The 32-year-old suffered from a calf injury, something that is a symptom of overuse. However, there had been initial concerns that McGregor had suffered from a recurrence of his Achilles injury that he sustained in 2024.

McGregor missed Celtic’s last two games – wins against Rangers and Motherwell, which have helped put Celtic into a favourable position as the season progresses into its final stages. Celtic have been extremely unfortunate with injuries this season, suffering from some significant injuries across the campaign. Celtic are without Alistair Johnston, Cameron-Carter-Vickers, Jota, Callum Osmand, Kasper Schmeichel and Arne Engels on long term injuries but Johnston and Engels are nearing their return along with CalMac.
