Celtic’s mega-rebuild set to continue as another stalwart tipped to join Scott Brown at Aberdeen

We all knew that Celtic were in for a major rebuild this summer, but there was a big question mark over how many of the current squad should stay.

Ideally you do want to keep some experience around and they don’t come any more experienced than Scott Brown, but there was also the feeling that a new manager may want a completely fresh start.

Broony may only have one or two years left at the top level so it’s tough to create a fresh start when you’re still holding onto the past, but that decision has now been made for Celtic as he’s agreed to join Aberdeen.

Interestingly a report from The Sunday Post has indicated that he might not be the only stalwart to make that move, with Leigh Griffiths also being tipped with the same transfer.

He’s had a rough season due to fitness issues and his role has diminished over the years, but he’s always good for a goal and he’s a popular figure among the fans.

He’s scored 122 goals over his eight seasons with the club so he will be a big loss, but again this may be the best time to let him move on as he turns 31 in the summer.

Aberdeen have a major goalscoring problem just now after losing Sam Cosgrove, and they’ve not done a good job of replacing him.

Florian Kamberi came in after a failed spell with St Gallen, Callum Hendry was St Johnstone’s fourth choice striker so that was a bold move and Fraser Hornby is highly rated but he’s yet to find the net either.

Signing Griffiths would change that as they’ll get a prolific scorer with a point to prove, so in a way it would be nice to see him go there and become the main man.

He’s still under contract so a fee would be required, but it looks like we’re in for a mega-clear-out this summer with several senior figures set to move on.
