Champ-agne Postecoglou – “Maybe they should give it to me mate and forget the rest”

Ange Postecoglou perhaps for the first time as Celtic manager, witnessed his team playing his Angeball, ‘never stop’ style of football for the entire 93 minutes of the game yesterday and it was devastatingly effective, blowing last season double cup winners away and giving Celtic the biggest win of the season as the Hoops hit Saints with a Magnificent Seven.

David Potter missed the game after being tested positive for Covid (get well soon) but was able to watch on Pass to Paradise and reported on the match last night.

And first thing this morning, ie before he went to bed after a hard days night, Sandman eventually submitted his Definitive Player Ratings where you get the feeling that he’s beginning to think that we might just win this league!

And last night Celtic TV got so excited that they released the Unique Angle in record time, despite having much more editing to do than at any other game this season. It seemed to pay off as by 8am on Sunday morning around 24,000 had watched it, mostly Celtic fans but probably some of of the fearful Old Firm fans too, ahead of their trip to Paisley today.

Ange Postecoglou was pleased afterwards but as you would expect was keeping his feet firmly on the ground, refusing to get carried away and was probably counting up the missed chances that could and should have given Celtic a double figures win yesterday.  Here’s what Ange said afterwards to Celtic TV…

Celtic TV: There are certain days when the fans don’t want the game to end where does that victory rank in terms of overall performance?

Ange Postecoglou: “Yeah, it was good and you don’t get a sort of a scoreline like that unless it is a good performance. We were on it from the start and |I thought we started the game really well and put them under pressure and we know they can be a dangerous side as they have been on good form.

“Once we got into our tempo and rhythm it was good to see. It was also good to see them finish things off in the second half as well.”

Celtic TV: We have seen first-half performances when teams have been swept away and you always said that there was more to come was that one of those relentless 90 minutes that you have been hoping to see?

Ange Postecoglou: “We said it at half-time that it is a game that we could have probably seen out pretty comfortably as we have with our games.

“That is our challenge and I think it helps when we can put real quality on the bench as well because they are obviously coming in and wanting to be a part of it. That helps maintain the impetus and momentum we have.

“We spoke about it at half-time and it was an opportunity for us to really finish the game off.”

Celtic TV: John Hartson and Stan Petrov had the unenviable task of choosing a man of the match would it have been easier to give the whole Celtic team a bottle of champagne?

Ange Postecoglou:  “Maybe they should give it to me mate and forget the rest!

“They were all great and that has been a testament to them all along. It is not about who scores the goals or who is the man of the match. It is the collective effort of all the lads that have got us this far and we are going to need it moving forward.  We know we have got five games to go now and from our perspective, it is about continuing to build on what we’ve started.”

Celtic TV: It’s a huge week next week and I have touched on Giorgos Giakoumakis’s injury did he come off as a precautionary measure?

Ange Postecoglou:  “He did feel a slight twinge and we will see how he is. Hopefully, it is not too bad and he didn’t seem to think so but again you never know with these things it is not until they settle down.

“It is unlucky for him and he has put in an enormous shift the last few weeks and hopefully, it doesn’t keep him out for too long.”
