Magnificent Celtic Hit Saints for Seven

There is no good news about testing positive for Covid and not being able to go to a game, especially when you are not really feeling ill! Yes, I could have gone but it is a wee bit irresponsible to sit on a bus and breathe all over everyone, especially as today, I would have been singing at the top of my voice about what a team we have!

So it was Stiliyan Petrov, John Hartson, Connie McLaughlan, Paul Cuddihy and Simon Donnelly of Celtic TV for me. But what a game! The commentators were right to have a problem naming the Man Of The Match – there were eleven of them, plus the substitutes. Daizen Maeda deserved it because he above all else symbolised the “We Never Stop” philosophy, but there was so much good football on show! I would have liked St Johnstone to score, because I like the score line 7-1, and I have to say of Andrew Dallas’s penalty that I have seen more obvious penalties not given – but that is me being kind to St Johnstone!

My favourite goals were those of Matt O’Riley who has come on leaps and bounds this season, but there was so much good play on view today, the only down side being the injury to Georgios Giakoumakis, from which we hope he recovers soon.

The commentators were interesting. They made a suggestion that Andrew Dallas might even look for ways to take time off the 90 minutes rather than add some on, if he wanted to be humane to St Johnstone, and that Shaun Rooney of St Johnstone might have been celebrating the result of some game last Sunday.

Now what game would that have been, I wonder? Were St Johnstone playing last Sunday? No. So what game was it?

So, a good game today by any standards even for those of us who were compelled to miss these appalling traffic jams that you get sometimes! Next week will be a little different, one feels. Maybe it will be 7-1 next week? Now there’s a thought for those of us dependent on the lateral flows!

In the meantime, things look even better than they were last week at this time, but, no premature celebrations yet!
