CELTIC have been drawn against FK Sarajevo in the first round of the UEFA Champions League, First Qualifying Round with the first leg being at home. The draw, the first of three that Celtic will be involved in this week, took place this afternoon at the UEFA offices in Nyon, Switzerland.
The first leg at Celtic Park is scheduled for Tuesday/Wednesday, 9/10 July with the return leg a week later on Tuesday/Wednesday, 16/17 July.
This is the first time Celtic have ever played a team from the Bosnian and Herzegovinian Premier League in competitive action.
Confirmation of dates, kick-off times and ticket information will be published on this site and also on www.celticfc.net
FK Sarajevo are the current Premier League of Bosnia and Herzegovina champions. They play at the Asim Ferhatović Hase Stadium, formerly known as the Koševo Stadium. The stadium was opened in 1947 and named after the Sarajevo neighbourhood of Koševo, where it is located. It’s capacity is around 34,000.
Their colours are very similar to Hearts. Last season saw FK Sarajevo draw with Atalanta in Italy in the Europa League qualifier before being hammered 0-8 in the second leg at home, so we should not have too much concerns about playing them over there.
Here’s what Moravcik67 said about FK Sarajevo on Sunday evening as he previewed this draw.
6. FK Sarajevo [#293]
Have won the Bosnian league twice in 5 years. Decent result against Atromitos of Greece in 14/15 is the only decent result in 5 seasons. Scudded 10-2 by both some German team and Atalanta.
