Charly Musonda shows some class in his goodbye message

CHARLY MUSONDA’S 18 month loan deal is effectively over a year earlier than planned. He returned to Chelsea to have a shoulder injury looked at and both his mum and his girlfriend took to social media to suggest that he wouldn’t be coming back – so the writing was on the wall.

The English press seemed to make this a matter for Brendan bashing, suggesting that Chelsea were enraged at the failure of Rodgers to play their player and develop him as they had hoped.

All you have to do is look at the comments for Paddy Roberts to appreciate that any blame doesn’t lie with Rodgers in this instance.

Musonda though has been one of the most hyped young players in European football for a while so it seemed an amazing result for Rodgers to bring him to Glasgow and you could see why this -on paper – would be a good move for both Chelsea and the player himself. If Rodgers could replicate the Roberts success at Celtic then everyone would be a winner.

It didn’t work out for Charly though and other than that assist against Zenit in the Europa League he has very little to shout about for his limited time playing for the team.

Players can take time to settle in at a new club and Rodgers had said all the right things about us seeing the real Musonda next season but it is not to be.

The player though has shown some class in his ‘goodbye message’ on his Instagram account. It reads:

“I’d like to thank all of the Celtic family, spending the second half of the season in such a prestigious club with its incredible fans was an experience to cherish, to receive number 67 and have your incredible support, everywhere in Glasgow was amazing.

“I will never forget the noise of a European night at the Park, and to be a part of it and witness it first hand was an experience that’s made me more hungry for that stage, and that’s thanks to you, and the players that just won the league 7 times in a row, and hopefully a double Treble,

“I will be a supporter of Celtic forever, I’d like to thank Brendan Rodgers for giving me that opportunity and guidance every single day, as I continue on my quest.”

We all wish him well in trying to make his way in the game.
