Commons Dropped by Sky – No place for Kris as Hoops Hero Hartson gets Sky Sports Gig

KRIS COMMONS has lost his regular punditry spot on Sky Sports as the broadcaster shuffles the pack and recruits many familiar faces from BT Sport for the new Scottish Premiership campaign which gets underway this weekend.

The former Celtic forward has become unpopular with the Celtic support for his media work which includes a newspaper column in Daily Mail and the regular spot for the Sky broadcasts for Scottish matches. However he’s become a casualty of the opportunity that Sky Sports now has to pick up some of the top performers from BT Sport after their rival broadcaster’s contract with the SPFL ended at the end of last season.

Sky are bringing in John Hartson as their Celtic pundit, and he has a decent track record of seeing things from a Celtic point of view and calling out various controversial issues when they emerge – unlike Commons.  Hartson will be joined in the move from BT Sport by Ally McCoist who can always be relied upon to see things through his blue tinged specs.

The impressive Eilidh Barbour also moves over to become the main anchor person for Sky’s Scottish football output as Celtic aim to secure a tenth straight title in a row, as Sky prepare to broadcast 48 matches this season as part of their £26million per season deal with the SPFL.

Former Scotland captain Darren Fletcher also joins the team as a football expert and Kris Boyd and James McFadden remain in place – as does Andy Walker who will work alongside Ian Crocker as co-commentator.

“We’re delighted to be able to bring our customers comprehensive and exclusive coverage of the Scottish Premiership in this, the first year of a five-year contract,” Sky Sports Director of Football Gary Hughes said in a press release, as reported by Scottish Sun. “It promises to be a thrilling season and we can’t wait to get going on 1st August on the home of Scottish football.”
