Contingency plan – Celtic speak to Mourinho’s long term assistant Rui Faria

Celtic have spoken to Rui Faria, the former Assistant to Jose Mourinho, about the managerial vacancy at the club. The Daily Record says that Celtic are looking to keep their options open should any snags in the deal to bring Ange Postecoglou to the club crop up.

The report states that the club have held tentative talks with Faria as they identify alternatives should the move for Australian Postecoglou fall through. The Yokohama F Marinos boss is the overwhelming favourite to become the Celtic manager but after Eddie Howe decided to walkaway from negotiations, the club are likely to be preparing themselves in the event of another calamity.

Mourinho and Faria parted company whilst they were at Manchester United as the 45-year-old sought to make a name for himself as a manager. The pair worked together at Uniao Leiria, Porto, twice at Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and then finally at Old Trafford.

Faria is another name that has been linked with the vacancy but in all honesty, as it is June, the club should already know who is taking over and be doing all they can to expedite this.

Postecoglou is expected to be announced as the manager shortly but it looks as if it is manager roulette with a number of names being linked for roles but the club’s hierarchy do not appear to have any clear vision in place for next season.
