Craig Moore forced to backtrack over Celtic squad remarks

Former Rangers defender Craig Moore has been forced into an embarrassing come down from his remarks about the current state of the Celtic squad. The Australian made the comments not long ago that Mick Beale had the stronger squad than Brendan Rodgers and now looks to have egg all over his face after Celtic waltzed into Ibrox last week with a depleted team and still won 1-0.

Every summer transfer window we have to endure the same nonsense from pundits in the mainstream media talking about the newest Ibrox club and their transfer dealings. It’s a stalwart of any close season that theRangers always win the intangible victory over Celtic in the form of the close season cup. Nothing ever changes and this year Moore was one that started the ridiculous debate about squad strength.

Nobody had really seen much of the squad Beale had assembled and so it was a stupid argument about who had the strongest one. After all, despite losing some players Brendan Rodgers has signed some talent and three were done in the last few days of the transfer window which has just closed. Likewise, nobody has seen any of the players Celtic have signed either.

However, that didn’t stop folks like Moore running off at the mouth about their squad being stronger – to which he’s not had to publicly admit was utter folly. On his previous point, he said to the Go Radio Football Show: “I feel a little bit silly I’ve got to say because at the start of the season again, when I was looking on paper, the Celtic squad in terms of the lack of maybe business that they had done and the business that Rangers done, I’m going well, ‘Rangers are the strongest squad’.

“I’ve said this a couple of times but paper doesn’t win you football matches. So far, that hasn’t transferred to match day. I’ll tell you what the difference is at this moment in time, mentally, Celtic are stronger.”
