Croatian media claim Celtic demanding £17 Million for Josip Juranovic

One of the big stand-outs during this year’s World Cup was the performances of Josip Juranovic, who helped Croatia secure third place in Qatar. The 27 year old Celtic defender’s contract extension talks with the club appear to have stalled and after his exploits at the World Cup, it could be that he will be the subject of numerous transfer bids in the January transfer window.

It doesn’t really come as a surprise that there are rumours of a Juranovic exit from Paradise being imminent. The discussion of the potential price points over for a Juranovic transfer also sparked discussion and debate.

Numbers ranging from the mid-teens to the mid-twenties seemed to be the proposed rate for the Croatian full-back. However, according to Sportske Novotsi, the asking price for Juranovic set by Celtic will be £17 million. However, with some giant football clubs showing interest in the full-back, such as Barcelona and Chelsea, perhaps £17 million will just be the starting point of a bidding war which will further boost the value of Juranovic.

In any case, £17 million may not be a huge figure for some of these huge European clubs, but it will prove to be one of Celtic’s largest transfers ever. This is especially impressive from a Celtic point of view as Josip was signed from Legia Warsaw – who will benefit from a sell-on clause – for only £2.5 million in August 2021. The profit Celtic are set to make on Juranovic will be considerable and will surely allow Ange to explore transfer markets near and far and bring in even more talent from around the world.
