Martin O’Neill has revealed that Dane Murray is an injury concern ahead of Celtic’s trip to face Ibrox on Sunday…
The defender was forced to withdraw shortly before kick-off in last night’s 2-1 victory against Aberdeen after suffering a problem during the warm-up. His late withdrawal saw Benjamin Arthur drafted into the starting line-up in his place.
Speaking at his post-match at Pittodrie last night Martin O’Neill said: “Dane, he felt his thigh, which is a concern for us, really. I would have to think he would be at this minute [a doubt for Sunday], but I don’t know at this minute.
“He’s just come in, he’s been treated, he’ll obviously be in for treatment tomorrow morning, and we’ll see. If you’re thinking about a thigh, I’m hoping that I’m not doom and gloom, but I’d be concerned about it.”
Making his first start for Celtic, Brentford loanee Benjamin Arthur delivered a strong display in central defence and was given man-of-the-match.
“I thought he did fine, he stepped into the game,” O’Neill added. “Half an hour beforehand his mind was thinking, I wonder will I get on at any given stage during the course of the match? And then the next thing he’s called upon to do it, to start the game.”
“So you have to have almost a different mindset. So he comes back into the dressing room, gets himself ready, and I thought he really did fine. I think there is, whether it’s here or not, but I think there’s a definite player there.”
“Our third game in six days, I knew it was going to be a tough game. It proved to be, but we saw it through in the end.”
Celtic now head to Ibrox on Sunday for a chance to get to Hampden for the third time this season. O’Neill’s men now have a 10 day break from league action with title challengers Motherwell on the horizon a week on Saturday. The Fir Park side take on Dundee this weekend at Dens Park using up their game in hand. A win will see them close in to just one point behind the Rangers in third place and just two points behind Celtic.
As Sandman noted in his Definitive Ratings this morning this upcoming Celtic v Motherwell game could end up determining the destination of the title.
