Darren O’Dea’s Swansea future at risk just months after Celtic move

Former Celtic defender Darren O’Dea could be set for a surprise exit after Swansea City sacked Alan Sheehan. The Swans parted ways with the Irishman after a disappointing start to the season, leaving the future of O’Dea up in the air.

In a statement on Tuesday, Swansea confirmed the decision to sack Sheehan as Head Coach. Sheehan enticed O’Dea to leave his role at Celtic as First Team Pathways Manager in the summer and join him with the EFL Championship side.

O’Dea is still currently listed on the Swansea City website and he’s likely to remain in situ until a permanent replacement is appointed. It remains to be seen whether the new head coach wishes to retain O’Dea’s services.

It has been suggested that Swansea will speak to the members of Sheehan’s staff with a view to resolving their futures in the coming week. Swansea are exploring options for a new manager, which will mean that Adam Idah will find himself under a new regime. Similarly, someone that was involved in signing Idah – Jay Lefevre – has agreed a move to Swansea. The recruitment specialist was brought into Celtic from Arsenal in December 2019 but has reportedly agreed a switch to Swansea.
