David Turnbull set to be rewarded with Celtic contract extension

David Turnbull is to offered a contract extension by Celtic, according to transfer expect Ekrem Konur. Recently he broke the news that Anthony Ralston was about to sign a new contract at Celtic and a few weeks after that, the Celtic right back duly put pen to paper on his new contract.

Turnbull is highly rated within the game, with numerous admirers south of the border. It makes perfect sense for Celtic to extend his contract and protect the asset value of a young player who may well end up being sold for a substantial fee further down the line. That’s the business model, after all.

19th December 2021; Hampden Park, Glasgow, Scotland; Scottish League Cup final, Hibernian versus Celtic: David Turnbull of Celtic pulls up with an injury as play continues around him

Turnbull started every game for Celtic this season until he was rested for the Europa League match against Real Betis at Celtic Park earlier this month. Even then injuries forced Ange Postecoglou to introduce the midfielder to that match and he duly scored the penalty to give Celtic a 3-2 victory.

The former Motherwell midfielder pulled up in the first half of the League Cup Final against Hibs at Hampden at the weekend, becoming the latest Celtic player to suffer a hamstring strain, and he missed the disappointing draw against St Mirren on Wednesday and will also sit out the trip to Perth to play St Johnstone on Boxing Day.

Hopefully he’ll be back by the time we play Hibs in mid January and by then he should have put pen to paper on his new contract extension which will take him through until 2026.
