David Turnbull? “That boy won’t fail because of what he has got in his head and obviously at his feet,” Tony Watt

Former Celtic hero Tony Watt is set to line-up against his former club at Celtic Park tomorrow afternoon. The Motherwell team, which Niall J profiled last night on The Celtic Star – Celtic v Motherwell Preview – Robinson’s side have had a frustrating start to their campaign – will be without their star man, David Turnbull after the 20 year old midfielder completed his £3m transfer to Celtic on Thursday.

So a Celtic hero will be playing for Motherwell and we’ll all be hoping that the former Motherwell star man will make his debut for the Hoops. Tony Watt was perhaps the best placed all of Turnbull’s former teammates to give him the lowdown on what it takes to play for Celtic.

“I am happy for him,” Watt told the media yesterday, as reported by Glasgow Times. “We are all buzzing for him. Nobody has got one bit of jealousy or hate towards him because of what a lovely boy he is. Nobody has got any bad feelings towards him. He is a great boy and he deserves his move. He will go on and do big things.”

“He has got the temperament that you need at a club like that. He will just take it in his stride. You see many people go there and fail. I would bet anything that that boy won’t fail because of what he has got in his head and obviously at his feet.

“He has got what not many people in this country have. I think he will go a long way. He has good a really good chance. I think he is made from something different that boy. He missed out on the contract of a lifetime, spent a year out, went back onto his wage at Motherwell, which is not Celtic quality.

“A lot of people would crumble and fail if they had seen the sort of money he had in front of him. But this guy came back, ran the show for a few games and then went away and got his move again.

“Not many people can do that. People who are linked with Celtic and don’t get that move never come back from it. That just shows you what type of boy David Turnbull is to do that.”

On the likely scenario that Watt will make his debit tomorrow against his old club the former Celtic striker admitted that it will be a strange one.  “It will be weird to see him in green and white hoops,” Watt added, but refused to dismiss Motherwell’s chances of causing a upset.  “Everybody is beatable, everybody can be gotten at. I think that has been shown in the last few weeks. Both Celtic and Rangers have dropped points, albeit on astroturf. We will go there confident.

“The win on Thursday night gives us that wee bit of confidence that we are quality players. We don’t just need to defend against teams like Celtic and Rangers, we can actually play.

“I think that is the key to beating teams like that – putting your foot on the ball, moving it about and trying to make them tired. If you don’t they will make you tired.”

“Kilmarnock roughed Celtic up. The big boy (Nicke) Kabamba did well. He roughed them up and gave them a game. Hopefully we can do that.

“I am not saying it is going to be me or another striker. But I think we need to get in their faces. If you show a team like that respect they will kill you.”
