David Turnbull to miss crucial away trips after red card

David Turnbull was sent off in yesterday’s 4-1 win over St Johnstone. The Scottish midfielder collided with Saints keeper Remi Matthews in the game’s dying stages, resulting in Matthews receiving treatment and referee Kevin Clancy flashing a yellow card in Turnbull’s direction.

VAR Official Mike Roncone was in Clancy’s ear and directed the man in the middle to go pitchside and look at it for himself. Clancy obliged and, as any football fan knows, he decided to overturn the decision after a second look. The red card was received with a bemused smile from the 23-year-old. However, Ange Postecoglou will be less than pleased as the card now carries a two-match suspension as it was serious foul play.

Celtic travel to Easter Road to face Hibernian on Wednesday evening before next Monday’s Glasgow Derby away to Rangers. The suspension incurred by this offence will mean that Turnbull will be forced to miss out on both games, which will certainly annoy the manager.

Turnbull has been on the fringes of the starting XI this season and would’ve hoped he could use his cameo on Saturday as an opportunity to get on the pitch and compete for minutes against Mooy, Hatate and Co. However, this will likely push him down the pecking order for the time being.

  1. David Turbuls red card was a joke!. Clancy (the midden, who’s nose is all brown) just falling in line with his free mason / orange order brothers in the refereeing department. Be a man Kevin, and stand by your own decision!! As you are not, at least I do not think you are one of the “grannies birthday brigade” stand by what it took you more than five minutes too decide.! You have no backbone you midden. Are you afraid the lodge peepell will not give you any games to ref if you become your own man??? Midden!!!
