David Turnbull – Welcome to Celtic is the message

THE MEDIA is full or reports today that David Turnbull will be joining Celtic but that was yesterday’s news on The Celtic Star – see HERE. We told you that Celtic had been given the green light to sign the Motherwell teenager after the dramatic falling out on Friday afternoon between his agent and Celtic CEO Peter Lawwell.

The player was able to think over Celtic’s ‘magnificent’ offer over the weekend and reached the conclusion, as his agent busied himself trying to reach English clubs, that it was too good an opportunity to miss.

Accordingly Turnbull has made it known that he wants to sign for Celtic and just as we stated yesterday this should happen early this week, with today or possibly tomorrow being likely.

Yesterday the Celtic players returned to Lennoxtown and skipper Scott Brown went out of his way to make sure that Turnbull knew he’d be made welcome by every single player in the dressing room, while emphasising that no player ever has guarantees about starting given to them at Celtic.

You are selected on merit.

“I think David would be fantastic. I think that it would be the right club to come to given how we develop players into top-quality players.

“Look at myself and James Forrest. There’s Callum McGregor and Kieran Tierney who have all come through.

“We are all Scottish lads. We’ve had fantastic coaches all the way through youth level and now we have coaches who have learned under great managers and we have got a great manager as well.

“It would be a great place for him to come and learn, to play in front of 60,000 fans, win trophies and play in the Champions League,” Broony said at the club’s first media conference of the new season, at Lennoxtown yesterday (see below).

“He has got that winning mentality. He has been fantastic in some of the games I have seen him play.

“He was Motherwell’s Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year and their top goalscorer.”

Welcome to Celtic, son seems to be the message from the captain. You can watch all of Scott Brown’s media conference below.

The Celtic Star has been running a poll asking whether Celtic should still sign David Turnbull given the row on Friday afternoon. An incredible 7,913 supporters have now voted in this with 5,623 voting no – that’s 71% and 2290 voting yes, ie 29% of the votes cast. However it should be noted that the Yes vote is increasing every time we looked at this and were pretty sure that the player will receive a warm welcome and the full backing of the Celtic support when we signs.

After his agent rejected Celtic's 'magnificent' offer, do you still want Celtic to sign David Turnbull?
