Deal done – Celtic confirm Leigh Griffiths extension

Celtic have confirmed that they have agreed a new one year extension with Leigh Griffiths. Just hours ago, Alison McConnell suggested that the player had been released given Griffiths’ social media activity but the club have confirmed that he has signed new terms.

The 30-year-old has struggled for fitness in recent times but he has said that he is committed to getting himself back to his best. Some were expecting him to be released as Celtic continue the rebuilding job for the new season.

Griffiths has scored 123 goals since joining from Wolves back in 2014 along with winning 14 trophies in his time at the club. Griffiths has proven to be an excellent acquisition but fitness concerns have plagued him in the last few seasons must to the frustration of all parties. However, if Ange Postecoglou can get him up to his best, then he has a top striker on his team. Griffiths has proven that he can do it but he needs to get himself back to his best, with no drama off the field and just commitment and hard work on it.
