Honestly, once I had finished reading it I had to go back to the start and read it again as my only thought was there is absolutely no way our largest shareholder has written this and had the audacity to publish it on the official Celtic website. But he did. I was astonished.
Realising I would be late for work I put the phone down and proceeded to get ready. In the shower and on my drive to work this was all I could think about. I couldn’t believe that Dermot Desmond, who let’s all remember does NOT own Celtic and is only a shareholder, albeit the largest one, used the club’s official lines of communication to personally attack Brendan Rodgers.

It was nothing short of an absolute and complete character assassination. He has branded him a liar, a man who put his reputation’s preservation over all else. Someone who has been divisive, misleading and self serving. Someone who has fueled a toxic atmosphere and instigated hostility towards the board. These are incredible accusations and I’m sure Brendan will be absolutely seething, and rightly so.
All I could think about on my way to work was how this all felt like something you would see appearing out of Ibrox, not Celtic Park. We have been laughing at our rivals ever since 2012, ‘the banter years’ that never seemed to end. Maybe we got jealous of all the attention and wanted to add some drama to surround our own club.

So much for aiming to be the best in the world in everything we do. This was more like something you would see emanating from your local GAA club where rival factions within the club air their grievances regarding their dissatisfaction at how the club is being run. A huge PLC club like Celtic should never be issuing unhinged statements like this. Surely any future manager now will tread carefully before taking the job, worried that if things go pear shaped Desmond will be ready to ruin their reputation?
If we delve deeper into what Desmond had to say within that statement,it doesn’t take us long to realise that he is, in my view, nothing more than an egomaniac, something he’s implying Rodgers is. He states near the start that Michael Nicholson and himself were KEEN to offer Rodgers a contract, not that they DID offer him one.

If you combine this statement with the one the other week then it would appear that none of the people running our club have any perception of the real world .
I hope that Brendan has not been silenced and we can hear his side of events over the last 2 + years .
Though I doubt the Desmond will ALLOW THST TO HAPPEN
I would also like to know if I CAN MAKE A STATEMENT ON BEHALF OF THE CLUB AS I AM A SHAREHOLDER
YOU and those like you are the “embarrassment to Celtic football club” You and those like you that print sheer Rafael Scheidt spamming out your narrow minded opinions, that are based on other bloggers narrow minded opinions trying to get revenue are the “People who are stealing money from fans”
You sit there ranting nothing more than your own childish opinion about a CONFIRMED LIAR who you were calling “rat” a couple of seasons ago! But now you are firmly right up the CONFRIMED LIAR’s backside so far you can’t see past his Scheidt and just like him its everyone’s fault BUT the CONFIRMED LIAR’s!
The most self entitled “fans” that the club has ever had, absolutely projecting your own failings about “not living in the real world” onto others.
YOU are the embarrassment.
Are you okay mate?
Thanks for taking the time to reply Dermot, I know you’ve had a busy few days
All that statement will achieve is divide opinion.
I fail to see how DD would leave himself open to a potential lawsuit, for a character assassination.
Would even say a lawyer wrote it on behalf of DD, and he only put his name to it imo?
Regardless I have suspected that Rodgers was the biggest culprit, within the current shitshow within the club. This statement only confirms what I suspected.
But it’s become very toxic to show any agreement towards the board whatsoever at present.
Personally, it’s got to a stage where I’m glad to see the back of Rodgers now.
All I’m hoping for is that MoN and Maloney can get our players back to playing to there capabilities, as Rodgers couldn’t any longer.
Haven’t got no interest really in 2 multi millionaires having a fallout.
What is very evident is that we were to believe that Rodgers was DD choice to replace Ange.
Even resulting in lawwell Jr losing his job, presumably with the backing of DD.
So Rodgers must have done something to really piss off DD to such a degree imo.
What that actually is, will expect it to be revealed soon enough.
With JK leaving also, would be very surprised if both haven’t got a job already lined up imo?
Couldn’t care less myself, but will be interested to see if the likes were to happen, as to what the reaction then would be like?
Don’t believe this saga is finalised by any means, Personally got far more interest in winning our next 2 matches, despite a mixed reaction.
This article isn’t representative of all fans but the nutter brigade minority. I hold Rodgers and the board responsible for the mess but this lazy journalism simply portrays a distorted view. If DD said nothing he is accused of hiding and now if he gives his opinion which anyone can do then he is criticised too. If Rodgers is innocent then he is old enough to speak up in response so let’s wait for that before choosing sides. This is what the Huns want to see – Celtic fans divided.
The article is what it is, Conall’s own take on the matter. He hasn’t claimed to speak for anyone else at all, all he has done is state his own view after hearing the news that Brendan had resigned and then read the statement from Dermot Desmond.
