‘It doesn’t feel nice,’ admits Celtic’s No2, ‘that’s why we have to win games’

CHRIS DAVIES reckons it is time Celtic started winning some games in the league in order to alter the standings in the table at the moment. Celtic go into tomorrow’s sold out Premiership match against Aberdeen a point and a place ahead of the Dons but are currently sitting in 6th place.

Kilmarnock are on the same points total as Celtic – 10 points – but are actually ahead of us on goal difference, a remarkable stat in itself! We are being outscored by Kilmarnock!

Three teams are just one point ahead on 11 points – Livingston (4th), Hibs (3rd) and Rangers (2nd) and it should be considered that goal difference can be crucial in a tight finish to the season – as we have found to our cost previously.

League leaders Hearts have 16 points and have so far shown little sign of blowing up from their impressive start to the season. The have a double header against Celtic a month from now – in the semi-final of the Betfred Cup and then in the Premiership at Celtic Park.

Before that though there are important points to be won by the 7 in a row Champions – starting tomorrow. Aberdeen won on their last visit to Celtic Park in May after suffering a long run of loses to Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Putting that result right tomorrow will push Celtic up the table and that will be nicer viewing for Chris Davies and the rest of us.

“It doesn’t feel nice looking at the league table and seeing Celtic in that position,” the Celtic No2 said, “so that’s why we have to win games to change that and that’s our focus.

“As always, it’s the next game that’s the most important, so we’ll reflect and learn from what we can improve on from the last game and then we quickly focus on the next one.

“We have to start winning and playing well. Once we do that we’ll move up the league and get that positive feeling back. The Aberdeen game at home is a great opportunity to take a positive step forward in the league and climb the table back to where we belong.”

Chris Davies was speaking to the latest edition of The Celtic View. Tomorrow’s game is a complete sell-out and Celtic have confirmed that there will be no restrictions in place around the stadium – so no repeat of the crushing from the Rangers game is likely.
