Donnelly praises Celtic defence, Hateley on Ibrox bottle merchants

Simon Donnelly and Mark Hateley pick through the bones of The Glasgow Derby match at Ibrox yesterday afternoon in separate interviews with Sky Sports earlier today. The former Celtic man believed that yesterday’s match was a game that theRangers had to win if they were to stay alive in this season’s title race so the defeat will put a huge dent in their aspirations to win the club’s second major honour and also retrain the title.

And the former Celtic forward notes the incredible job that Ange Postecoglou has done with a points swing of over 30 points on theRangers from last season and also points out the often criticised Celtic defence were outstanding yesterday with Greg Taylor having a great game while both Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt dealt with absolutely everything thrown into the box – with both being blameless at theRangers opener in the opening few minutes.

And both Celtic central defenders combined to force the winner with the Swedish international challenging for the brilliant delivered free-kick from Jota and the USA international defender showing great composure to find the back of the net to score what ultimately was the winning goal.

Meanwhile Mark Hateley spoke on behalf of the losers. He mentioned discussing the defeat with his friends and none being too surprised at the outcome in a season where theRangers have only played well sporadically. The former Rangers FC striker bemoans the lack of investment in the team last summer believing that the squad needed are blood of a quality that would be challenging for a first team spot and that simply did not happen.

Hateley reckons that it was important that theRangers won the match yesterday but that didn’t happen. On theRangers fans throwing bottles at the game yesterday including broken glass onto the park at half time and smashing a bottle over a Celtic staff member’s head resulting in the need for urgent medical attention that required stitches, Hateley said:

“It’s unacceptable at any level for me and it is endangering lives. Bottle throwing of you were on the street you’d be arrested and you;d be thrown in jail and charged would be pressed. I would like to think and you know you have disgruntled supporters but that is beyond the game of football and beyond this football club for me.”
