“Dream Come True,” Hayes thrilled at scoring first goal for Celtic

Ten wins and one draw from the past eleven matches is title challenging form and it’s fair to say that the Glasgow City players will be well aware of the relentless push from Celtic for that second Champions League spot – at the expense of theRangers that has taken Fran Alonso’s team, described earlier in the season as the third horse in a two horse race, to within touching distance of the title itself.

On Wednesday night 25 year old Warrington defender Caitlin Hayes scored her first goal for the club she’s supported all her life and come the end of the season next Sunday we may be looking back on that as the decisive goal in securing at the very least the Champions League spot for Celtic.

That in itself is a truly remarkable achievement for Alonso and his Band of Sisters who have punched above their weight in what has been a remarkable, ground breaking season for the women’s team.

cOn her winner against Hibs , Hayes was understandably thrilled. “I’m absolutely over the moon,” she told Celtic TV. “It was a monkey off my back because I’m probably guilty of missing a few chances. It’s a dream come true to get my first Celtic goal and it’s a proud day for my family.

“I say it all the time but my job’s made easy by the team-mates around me and in front of me. It’s a team game obviously and our whole team ethic is a credit to us and we’ve kept that up over a long season.”

The Hoops play Forfar Farmington on Sunday and The Celtic Star will be at the match reporting on all the action and hoping for a high scoring win to eat into that gaol difference advantage that Glasgow City currently have. Then the following Sunday, 6 June, it’s D-Day for the three sides at the top of the SWPL one will be Champions (not theRangers), one more will be in the Champions League by way of finishing second and one will end up with nothing at all – and you know who we think that will be, after our rather splendid green and whitewash against them.

“It’s a huge three points,” she said. “We played against Rangers in midweek and that was a dream come true to make it three wins out of three but that would have been for nothing if we didn’t take care of business against Hibs. Thankfully we got the three points so we’ll move forward together on to the last two games.”

Here’s Hayes talking after the game on Wednesday and the Unique Angle footage of her goal is below that…
