Dundee United v Celtic – Change tactics or we’ll lose again

Change tactics and we have a decent chance of winning at Tannadice, if not then I have no confidence whatsoever in our team getting anything against Dundee United….

Tomorrow night we will face Dundee United at Tannadice as we bid to end a run of three successive losses, including the disappointment of losing Sunday’s Premier Sports Cup final to St Mirren, a defeat which is  fresh in the mind and still hurts.

Tannadice is always a tough fixture

Dundee United at Tannadice is always a tough fixture, and tomorrow night will be no exception. Even more so giving the state of affairs on the park, where our players look bewildered and the manager looking clueless as to what he’s doing.

I’m not a licensed UEFA coach, but like each and everyone of you I can see from the stands that our tactical approach isn’t working, and for a opposing coach, it must be a dream to set your side up against such a misshaped and confused opponent.

Jim Goodwin will have noticed Celtic flaws

If me and you can see it, then the likes of Jim Goodwin will certainly notice it, and he will undoubtedly fancy his chances come kick off tomorrow night and so will Jimmy Thelin at the weekend.

Goodwin will in no doubt adopt the same approach of Derek McInnes a week ago and Stephen Robinson on Sunday, both of whom set their side up to take advantage of a fragile and clueless opponent, and it paid off. It’s that easy, our predictably is staggering. It’s almost amateurish.

Harass them, press them, make them give away set pieces and take advantage of their weak, unsure defensive line. bobs your uncle. Thats not exactly tactically astute, but it’s the way to get the better of this Celtic side under Wilfried Nancy. It’s that simple.

Nancy can ease the pressure on himself

Nancy can ease the pressure on himself slightly by making adjustments to his wacky tactical approach. Go four at the back for a start. Two centre backs and two full backs. Everyone knows what they are doing, just like it was under Martin O’Neill, and Brendan Rodgers for that matter.

A competent back line will make the rest of the side take care of itself. By all means play attacking attractive football, but set the players up in a system that suits their ability. It’s not that difficult.

Four defeats in a row and it’s curtains for Nancy

If Nancy adopts that approach, then I would be confident of getting a result at Tannadice, if not then I have literally no confidence whatsoever in his 3-4-3 system and reckon that we will be losing our fourth game on the bounce under Wilfried Nancy.

And that would be that as far as any remaining backing he’d be getting from the support.
