EFL journalist Alan Nixon has said that Celtic will need to pay £2m to sign Riley McGree. The Daily Mail reported that Celtic were closing in on the midfielder, who enjoyed a loan spell at Birmingham, as Ange Postecoglou looks to strengthen his ranks in the middle of the park.
The Australian Internationalist is a Charlotte FC player but Birmingham and Middlesbrough were poised to try and seal a permanent deal for him but Postecoglou is looking to swoop in and sign him. Nixon adds to the report by saying that £2m is the fee that would be required for the player.
Boro been trying for McGree for a couple of weeks … not far away with fee … Celtic can come in if they want … and if they have the 2m. https://t.co/8bV2WMn9E8

This was backed up by The Athletic’s Sam Stejskal, who said it would be under $3m (under £2.2m).
Source confirms that Charlotte are close to deal to sell Riley McGree to Celtic. Fee a little under $3 million, potential to rise another $1-2 million depending on performance.
Charlotte acquired McGree in Oct. 2020 from Adelaide United and immediately loaned him to Birmingham. https://t.co/vmpYE280Av

McGree played 30 games for the Championship side, scoring 3 times and assisting on 2 occasions. The midfielder would act as a deputy to skipper Callum McGregor as the manager will want to reduce the amount of games that plays.
Celtic have signed Hatate, Ideguchi, Maeda and Kenny as the manager looks to strengthen ahead of a push towards the title.
