The Celtic Invincibles from 2016-17 dropped eight points that season with four draws no defeats and win after win in what was a remarkable season which included winning both domestic cups to complete the treble and achieve a real and remarkable Invincible season.
Yet so far with just eight league matches remaining Celtic have dropped points just two matches this season, the 2-0 defeat to St Mirren in September and the 2-2 draw at Ibrox in January. That means five points dropped and a chance for Ange Postecoglou’s side to surpass the points total Rodgers’ side managed and for once Ange Postecoglou allowed himself to look further ahead to eye eight league victories and beat previous records set by Celtic sides managed Willie Maley, Jock Stein and Brendan Rodgers and indeed every manager anywhere, in any league.
“It is a remarkable run,” Ange Postecolgou told Celtic TV. ‘There have been some brilliant sides in Scottish football that this group have surpassed in terms of that and in terms of a start to a season.
“Just as pleasing for me is the level of performance. For the most part, we have had good, strong levels of performance every week and it is a credit to the group and it is the group as it is not just the core group of players who have done it for us.
“Everyone’s chipped in and the guys coming on have helped us and the guys coming into the team have also helped us so it is a testament to the group.
“Ultimately the key part is still ahead of us there are eight games to go and 24 points that we want to get and that is our target.”
