‘Europa League Finalists?’ What’s Brendan on about?

Brendan Rodgers yesterday attempted to put the brakes on any dreamers amongst the Celtic support that have envisaged a European journey to the final of the Europa League in May.
Although where he has got the notion that that is being discussed or considered is something of a mystery.

The manager spoke to Celtic TV about his aims for the campaign, which begins on Thursday versus Rosenborg.

“I see lots of stories and reports about us getting to the final. That’s a long way away.

“You only have to look at the teams and the calibre of club and financial resources in this competition. However, it’s the group stage and we have earned the right to be there. Now we have to fight to show we can come out of the group stage.”

Rodgers was also able to give examples of a few teams that might also be dreaming of the Baku showpiece in Azerbaijan.

“Arsenal, AC Milan, Chelsea and Sevilla are also in the group stage and eight top teams will drop down from the Champions League.”

Unfortunately these teams all remain a fair way away from where we currently are. Second in the table, five behind Hearts and no goals in either of our away league games.

As a support we have the right to dream but expectations of a European Final this season are low to non existent…

Maybe it’s the media he’s on about? Then building up Celtic for an inevitable fall? Who knows…
