As predicted on The Celtic Star yesterday by Jessica Elliott, Celtic FC Women with play both legs of the Uefa Women’s Champions League match against Ukrainian Champions FC Vorskla Poltava at home…
We had hoped that Celtic would look to stage their home game at Celtic Park but with both legs having to be played in Scotland due to the on-going conflict in Ukraine, it has now been confirmed that Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium is the chosen venue for these history making matches.
Celtic FC Women confirmed the details for the Round 2 knock-out tie with Vorskla Poltava this evening, confirming that both games will be played in Scotland, at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie on Sunday 22 September (kick-off 12pm) and the return fixture on Thursday 26 September with a 7.15pm kick-off,

Meanwhile here are the highlights from Celtic FC Women’s historic victory in Lithuania against their Champions FC Gintra, who have much greater Champions League experience than Celtic. It’s fair to say that Celtic absolutely dominated that match from start to finish but were also extremely wasteful in front of goal, meaning that the scoreline was restricted to a 2-0 Celtic victory. We even missed a penalty!
Against FC Vorskla Poltava, Celtic will need to be more clinical in front of goal if they are going to reach the Group Stages of the Champions League and if you read Jessica’s article linked above you’ll see the significant financial package that the club will receive if they can get past the Ukrainian side who are hardened Champions League campaigners.
Watch Saturday’s action for yourselves..
