Fabrizio Romano dampens Celtic transfer dream but there is still late window hope

Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano has given an update on the future of Kieran Tierney and it isn’t exactly great news for Celtic fans.

Many Celtic fans have been waiting for the announcement that Kieran Tierney has made his return to Paradise. His situation at Arsenal is far from ideal, as he has been further shunned in the past few months and received little game time and once again manager Mikel Arteta has left Tierney out of the Arsenal squad for this evening’s match against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

This developing situation has given many Celtic fans hope that Tierney might choose to come back and play for the Hoops. Especially with Brendan Rodgers’ new system, a new left-back could be necessary with Greg Taylor not looking as comfortable in his adjusted role.

However, recent reports from Fabrizio Romano may dampen these hopes as he reckons Tierney will be making his move to the Spanish League this summer. According to Romano, the Spanish side, Real Sociedad are keen on signing Tierney and has already made a verbal offer for the player for a loan with an option to buy deal.

It seems that Arsenal would like something more permanent, however, so nothing is conformed as of yet. Romano spoke to Givemesport, where he said…

“I think he will because, on the player’s side, they are open to making this move happen. He wants to play, and that’s why Arsenal have the same intention.”

“Real Sociedad are the club showing the biggest interest because they made a verbal proposal for a loan deal with a buy option. Arsenal asked for an obligation. So, Arsenal want a permanent transfer. For Tierney, they aren’t so keen on a loan transfer. Let’s see how the conversation with Real Sociedad will continue.”

With any luck, talks with Real Sociedad will break down and Tierney will attempt to come back to the Hoops just before the end of the transfer window on a loan deal, and although this is in the balance, it’s certainly possible.

Another positive in Celtic’s position is actually the 1-0 defeat at Kilmarnock in a match where the performance was worse than the result. That will give Brendan Rodgers a stronger argument to make to Michael Nicholson who was at Rugby Park to see such a pitiful display from a Celtic side desperately in need of quality, experience and a desire to win and Kieran Tierney will certainly provide that.

It’s going to go to the wire though so the longer this goes on this month the better the chances of KT ending up back at Celtic.
