Fabrizio Romano issues update on previously linked Celtic target

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has issued an update on former Celtic target Fausto Vera as the midfielder becomes a target for a number of clubs. The 22-year-old Argentine was heavily linked over the summer but no move transpired with Celtic instead opting to sign Oliver Ablidgaard and Aaron Mooy to strengthen the midfield.

Celtic’s focus appeared to switch to Vera after initial interest in Vinicius Souza failed to reach a positive outcome. However, the arrival of Ablidgaard and Mooy seemed to fill that gap in the squad with Celtic apparently content to drop out of the running in the race to sign Vera, with Brazilian club Corinthians successful sign the midfielder.

Reports over the summer indicated that Celtic were interested in a loan deal with an option to buy but the interest elsewhere pushed the player’s value to around £5.5m with Celtic not prepared to spent that sum of money after the signing of Cameron-Carter Vickers, Jota and Alexandro Bernabei.

It will be interesting to see where Vera ends up and whether Celtic reignite their interest in the player. Ablidgaard has joined on a one-year deal but so far has yet to really impress since joining from Rubin Kazan.
