Fabrizio Romano Update – Door opens for Albian Ajeti’s Celtic exit

Fabrizio Romano’s Transfer Update – Falling dominoes opens door for Albian Ajeti exit…

Transfer Expert Fabrizio Romano has given a social media update on a potential transfer today, and one that could have ramifications for Celtic and their attempts to offload Albian Ajeti.

Romano has today revealed FC Basel striker Arthur Cabal is in Florence with a view to completing a deal to sign with Fiorentina, who in turn are looking to sell star striker Dusan Vlahovic to Juventus.

As reported yesterday on The Celtic Star, FC Basel would then be looking to offer Albian Ajeti a move back to his old club as their replacement for the outgoing Cabal, and you’d assume if that opportunity landed in the lap of our Swiss striker he’d jump at the chance of a return home and put an end to the miserable time he’s had since leaving Basel to first sign for West Ham and then an equally disappointing stint with Celtic.

‘Brazilian striker Arthur Cabral has just landed in Florence in order to complete his move to Fiorentina from FC Basel. €14.5m plus bonuses fee agreed.

Arthur will undergo medical tests tomorrow – he’s Dusan Vlahović [Juventus] replacement for Fiorentina.’

Alongside Vasilis Barkas and Boli Bolingoli, Ajeti is an expensive Celtic transfer that hasn’t worked out and with Celtic signing five players in this transfer window to add to the twelve purchased in the summer, those not contributing – and not looking likely too in the future – do need to be moved on, from both a financial perspective for the club and for the players themselves, who must be aware by now that limited playing time or indeed none at all are their immediate futures at Celtic.

Back to Basel for Ajeti?

Of those three players Ajeti is the one rumoured to be on the highest weekly wage, rumoured to be around £18,000 per week, as such if FC Basel do sell Arthur Cabal prior to the window closing, it is difficult to see Celtic being too awkward to deal with particularly if the transfer of Ajeti could be completed on a permanent basis.
