Fabrizio Romano’s transfer update on Giōrgos Giakoumakīs

Respected transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has posted some transfer news relating to former Celtic striker Giōrgos Giakoumakīs.

The Greek international striker, who left Celtic to join MLS side Atlanta United in January 2023, is the target Mexico City side Cruz Azul.

Cruz Azul have, according to Romano, made a formal bid of $10m plus add-ons to Atlanta United and he also advises that the 29 year-old former Celtic striker is keen on the move.

There are reports that contract extension talks with Atlanta United have stalled and it looks like a repeat of the situation we saw developing at Celtic with signing a long term contract then quickly looking for improved terms. He has been relatively successful at the MLS side but has also had injury concerns.

Atlanta might fancy cashing in on their striker if the money is right, with talk of a rebuild being planned within the squad anyway. No news on whether there’s a sell-on clause in his transfer from Celtic but it’s one to watch.
