‘For Frank McGarvey,’ Celtic Family Remember a Club Legend

Today was bittersweet in many ways as we watched Celtic go 12 points clear at the top of the cinch Premiership league table. For today the Celtic Family joined in unison to remember club legend, Frank McGarvey. Our former striker passed away after succumbing to cancer and will be sadly missed be everyone involved with Celtic.

It was a tough blow to take considering his age and he was on the hallowed turf at Celtic Park merely a few weeks back to thank everyone for their well wishes. He was visibly emotional that day and it reverberated throughout the stadium as his daughter came to greet him as he left the field. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as we all felt the power of Frank’s sincerity and humbleness.

Before the match today, the Celtic supporters paid tribute to Frank McGarvey in a minutes silence which was beautifully maintained by everyone inside the ground. Paul Cuddihy of Celtic TV even mentioned as much after the referee blew his whistle to bring the silence to its conclusion.

The Celtic media account on Twitter posted an image of the two teams around the centre circle during the sixty seconds of reflection in honour of Frank this afternoon. It was a solemn day in many respects as we remember yet another Celtic man who has left an indelible mark on us all and is part of our DNA now.

God Bless, Frank.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
