Forgotten Celtic right-back seals departure to MLS

Forgotten Celtic right back Manny Perez has signed for Portland Timbers on a permanent deal having made no appearances for Celtic. The 22-year-old has been plying his trade in the USA and has made the move to his homeland permanent, agreeing a transfer to Timbers and then being loaned to FC Austin.

Perez was one of Brendan Rodgers’ last signings in January 2019 when the American right-back was signed on a three year deal; however, strict immigration laws have prevented him from getting the necessary paperwork to play for the Scottish Champions.

Celtic are in the middle of a colossal rebuilding job and it is likely that there will be more links with a number of players as the club look to effectively revamp the playing squad and footballing structure. Perez was never able to make his mark and you have to wonder if he could have been better than some of the players that have played their part in this disaster of a season.

Celtic have already sold Patryk Klimala, Cameron Harper and Andrew Gutman to the MLS, with Red Bull New York acquiring the trio. Perez will need to impress in the Western Conference of the MLS and hope he can get into the Portland team.

Good luck, Manny.
