Former Celtic defender Shane Duffy impressed in Brighton’s opening day win against Burnley. Duffy cut a maligned figure last season in the Hoops during a torrid loan spell but he was a powerful force at the back as Graham Potter’s side came from behind to win at Turf Moor.
His move to Celtic did not pan out as anyone planned but the Irishman has shown enormous strength of character to bounce back from last year and prove that he is still a top player.
Shane Duffy versus Burnley:
71 touches
45/49 passes completed
10 clearances (8 headed)
9/13 aerial duels won
4 tackles + interceptions

Can we just take a moment to appreciate the performance of Shane Duffy? 👏🏼 Had one of the toughest years & seasons of his life last year & absolutely bossed it today. Got his head & a block on everything. Chuffed to bits to see him getting back to his best. Ain’t nobody… #BHAFC

The Ireland captain joined Neil Lennon’s team last September on a season-long loan deal and made 27 appearances for his boyhood club, winning a Scottish Cup in the process, thanks to the rearranged 2020 Final. However, personal issues and a disaster season for the club meant that Duffy was unable to find his best form. It is brilliant to see him doing well again.
Hail Hail Shane. You gave it everything for us but sadly it wasn’t for you or us last season but always welcome back to Celtic park. Once a tim always a tim. 🇮🇪
Well done Shane!
As Jim above says, you are always welcome at Celtic Park.
Great to see you happy at Brighton.
Lennon, Kennedy et al were never the right people for you and the troubles at Celtic would not help.
I hope you have a great season and continue to beyond it. Hail, hail!
