Former Celtic favourite Fraser Forster set for key Premier League role

Former Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster is set to play a key role in the coming weeks for Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup, Premier League and Champions League after developments today regarding Hugo Lloris. The Frenchman is a nailed on starter for Antonio Conte but suffered ligament damage, which was described as ‘very bad’.

Lloris, Spurs’ No.1, was ruled out for eight weeks with a knee injury sustained in the 1-0 win over Manchester City last week. Now, Forster will be tasked with the role between the sticks for Spurs. The North London club face AC Milan on the 14th of February in the Champions League while Forster will need to do his part to help Spurs push for Top Four in England.

The Englishman was a favourite for Celtic fans after fine displays domestically and in Europe across his original spell (initially on loan before joining permanently) between 2010-2014. The goalie swapped Glasgow’s East End for Southampton in a deal worth £10m.

Forster spent a successful 2019/20 season on loan with Lennon’s Celtic, which was cut short due to COVID-19; however, Lennon had hoped to re-sign him again. For one reason or another, this did not transpire and Celtic instead went out and bought Barkas from AEK Athens. Barkas’ season was a disaster and having lost Craig Gordon on the gamble that Forster would sign, Celtic really missed the Englishman.
