Former Celtic Head of Recruitment to leave Leicester City role

Former Celtic Head of Recruitment Lee Congerton will leave his role with Leicester City. The 48-year-old is nearing a move to Serie A side Atalanta, where he will assume the role of General Manager, according to a report by The Athletic.

Congerton left Celtic in May 2019, following Brendan Rodgers to Leicester City following the Irishman’s decision to depart for the Premier League midway through a season. It has been a mixed bag for Congerton in the Midlands. A number of Leicester fans appear to be unimpressed with Congerton’s record as Head of Senior Recruitment with The Foxes.

As transfer flop Kundai Benyu was in the news today talking about his time at Celtic, it is relevant to consider the flops that were signed during his tenure as the club’s Head of Recruitment. Marvin Compper, Charly Musonda, Youssouf Mulumbu, Jack Hendry represent players that failed to make the grade at Celtic.

However, Congerton could also be credited with players like Olivier Ntcham and Odsonne Edouard from France while supporting Rodgers in attracting youth talent suggests that he had an eye for a player.

There is an argument that Rodgers rated Congerton highly and that he would have been able to achieve in different circumstances at Celtic, had there not been interference from others regarding recruitment, which ultimately resulted in Rodgers leaving.
