Former Celtic hitman Leigh Griffiths finds new club aged 34

Former Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has signed for Stirling Macedonia Lions in the National Premier Leagues Western Australia (NPL WA). The former Scotland Internationalist made the move to Perth, Australia as he looked for a change, joining semi-pro Mandurah City.

Now, Griffiths has moved to the Australian second division side as he continues to kick a ball.

The 34-year-old scored 123 goals for Celtic in 261 appearances but off-field issues plagued the striker’s time in Glasgow. Although, he will depart with a place in Celtic’s all-time scoring charts as well as an excellent haul of winners and medals.

Ange Postecoglou rewarded him with a one-year deal as he arrived at Celtic, stating each player would have the chance to earn their place. Off-field antics shunted Griffiths’ future back into focus and a loan to Dundee was agreed. Midway through the season, the club decided to exercise an option to end his contract prematurely before Dundee also rejected the chance to sign him permanently. A move to Falkirk transpired but by the end of 2022, Griff had moved to Australia.

Good luck to the player, he was a fine talent on his day but too many issues off the field tainted that talent. Hopefully he is doing well in Australia.
