Former Celtic scout lands impressive Hibs role

Former Celtic scout Brian McDermott has landed a role with Scottish Premiership side Hibernian. The 62-year-old has been appointed as the Easter Road club’s Director of Football after an extensive search to bolster the footballing department at Hibs.

McDermott has managed Leeds United and Reading but switched from management to recruitment, working at Celtic and Arsenal in a consultancy role. Now, he has secured a permanent position working with Ben Kensell and manager Lee Johnson.

Hibs have often come under fire from their own supporters about their inability to effectively plan for transfer windows, leading to a high turnover of players, something that Johnson bemoaned at the start of the season. McDermott’s extensive experience will no doubt have been a huge draw when appointing him.

You would wonder whether McDermott and Hibs might visit Celtic in the summer to sign some players that Ange Postecoglou has deemed as being surplus to requirements.
