Former Celtic Star to Leave Club After Relegation Confirmed

Alloa FC today announced that their manager Peter Grant will leave the club at the end of his contract this summer after two years in charge at the Clackmannanshire side. Alloa’s relegation from the Championship was confirmed at the weekend with a 2-1 home defeat to Raith Rovers.

Since an impressive victory away to Queen of the South mid-March, Alloa picked up just one point from a possible 15, including a bitterly disappointing defeat to fellow relegation contenders Arbroath. And after three seasons in the Championship, relegation has now cost the former Celtic midfielder his job.

The official Alloa website released the following statement confirming Grant’s departure.

The club can confirm today that Peter Grant will leave the club at the end of his current contract this summer. We take this opportunity to put on record our thanks for his fantastic work over the last 24 months and wish him every success in the future.

Mike Mulraney said “The commitment and professionalism that Peter has brought to Alloa has been a credit to him, we could not have asked for more. Obviously results this season has been disappointing, however it is with sadness we see Peter leave the club. I do however respect his decision and wish him the very best in all his future endeavours”.

The directors, staff and all who are involved at the club have enjoyed working with Peter and wish him well in the future.

Peter Grant spent 15 years at Celtic from 1982 to 1997. He made his debut at Ibrox in a 1-0 win over Rangers in April 1984. His last game for the club was in a League Cup tie against St Johnstone in 1997. In meantime these games Grant gave his all for the club that he loves to this day.

We wish him all the best going forward.
