Former Celtic talent Aaron Hickey linked with £20m move to Newcastle United

Ex-Celtic academy starlet Aaron Hickey has been linked with a megabucks move to the Premier League with Newcastle United. The player Celtic let go a few years back has went on to forge a career for himself outside of Paradise, with a stint at Hearts paving way for a move to Bologna in Serie A.

Hickey was of interest to Celtic before his move to Italian football, however the club decided against making a move for the former youth prospect. Now plying his trade in the same league as superstar Dusan Vlahovic, the Scotsman is on the radar of former Celtic managerial target Eddie Howe and his newly rich Newcastle side.

Howe has certainly turned the fortunes of the Tyne and Wear club around of late, dragging them out of the relegation zone with the help of several additions in the January transfer window. It is being reported that Howe is looking ahead to the summer window with certain names in mind, with Hickey being just one of the names under consideration.

The left-back has gone from strength to strength since leaving the country’s capital and setting up in Bologna. He has earned rave reviews from his coach and the Italian media for his swashbuckling displays at the left hand side of Sinisa Mihajlovic’s defence this season. This has prompted considerable attention from club’s all across Europe. It is claimed that it will take around £15-20M to prise the youngster from his current employers, but transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has insisted this will not deter Newcastle United and Howe in their attempts to procure the recently capped defender.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
