Former Celtic managerial target Eddie Howe looks set to become the next manager of Newcastle United. Howe was a long-term target to replace Neil Lennon but a variety of reasons lead to Howe and Celtic moving in separate directions.
Now, Unai Emery’s decision to reject The Magpies’ approach has resulted in a swift move to appoint the ex-Bournemouth boss. It is likely to be part of a plan for Newcastle to stay in the Premier League build-up for the next season and hopefully help guide them up the table. Sky Sports are reporting that Howe has agreed a two-and-a-half-year deal to become the manager at St James’ Park.

The 43-year-old Englishman decided against the opportunity of a lifetime and Ange Postecoglou jumped at the opportunity.
It was potentially a dodged bullet as Howe clearly didn’t fancy the cauldron that is Scottish football but, as they say, as one door closes another opens. Ange Postecoglou has been impressive since he arrived in the summer and he has been able to push Celtic’s rebuild ahead.
Celtic are in Europa League action tonight and will be competing at Hampden later this month, Newcastle are, however, 19th in the Premier League.
